Let it Shine!

LED LightingLight emitting diodes, more commonly known as LED lights, are very popular these days as they are extremely efficient, cheap and useful. LED lighting is becoming the next big thing. In other words, the invention of LED lights has been revolutionary. The industry in LED lights has already reached the billion dollar mark. LED lights are increasingly being used in television sets, table lamps, computer screens, mobile phone screens, tablets and what not! It is interesting to note that a LED source is a two-lead, semi-conductor source of light.

A LED bulb has several advantages over the traditional incandescent light bulb. It has greater lifespan, greater electrical efficiency, and some chips even emit even more than hundred lumens per watt. LED lights do not take time to light up and have a very powerful and strong brightness. Since these bulbs do not emit light in all directions, the design of the lamp is affected by their directional characteristics. However, these days, high-power versions are being introduced in the market. Direct current (DC) electrical power is used for LED chips. Therefore, an appropriate circuit is needed to convert the alternating current (AC) to DC. The supply of electricity is regulated low voltage.

There are several reasons why you should consider changing over to LED lighting. Some of the advantages of using LED lights are listed below:

  • Energy efficiency – The efficiency of LED lights is between 80-90% as compared to traditional incandescent lighting. Only 20% of energy is lost in other forms such as heat. Since LED lights also need very little voltage to work with, think about how much money you could save on, just by changing your light bulbs! LED bulbs also have a very long life span so you need not worry about changing your light bulb every now and then!
  • Durability – LEDs are built in such a way that they can withstand some of the roughest conditions. They are built with sturdy components and are resistant to shocks, the weather, rain, public exposure, even construction and manufacturing sites. Thus the Government too can consider turning the city into LED!
  • No UV rays – LED lighting produces very little infrared rays and only a very negligible amount of UV rays. Thus this kind of lighting is very beneficial to articles that are sensitive to heat and other objects and materials such as articles of importance, kept in museums, archaeological sites and art galleries.
  • Dispersing of light – Since light emitted from LED lights are directional, this kind of lighting can be used to shine on specific objects in a more powerful way.
  • Eco Friendly – LED lights do not contain toxic chemicals as compared to most other fluorescent light bulbs that contain toxic elements such as mercury which pose a threat to your life as well as the environment. LED lights are 100% recyclable. Also since you will be consuming less energy, you are doing the environment a big favour. This can reduce your carbon footprints to a third. Remember that little things add up to a lot!
